What data Vocamo processes
- Learning data (answers, progress, settings and practice plan) is stored only on your phone. Vocamo has no user accounts and does not send this data to us.
- Microphone: when you enable speaking tasks, your speech is passed to your phone's speech recognition service (for example Google speech recognition) to convert it to text. On-device recognition is preferred; if the language pack is missing on the phone, audio may be sent to the recognition service's cloud. Vocamo does not store audio recordings. The recognition provider's own terms apply to its processing. On iPhone, recognition is done by Apple's speech recognition: on the device if the language supports it, otherwise by Apple's service under Apple's terms. On iPhone the system asks separately for permission to use the microphone and speech recognition.
- Device language: on first launch Vocamo reads your phone's language setting so the first screen is in your language. It is processed only on the phone. Location is neither asked for nor used.
- Your name (optional): if you tell Vocamo what to call you, the name is stored only on your phone and shown in greetings, some reminders, the home screen widget and the daily celebration. It is never sent anywhere. You can change or remove it in settings ("Your name"); it is included only in a learning data export that you make yourself.
- Pronunciation: words, sentences, conversations and the guide use pre-recorded voices that come with the app (generated with AI). If no recording exists, your phone's text-to-speech is used (the phone's speech synthesis on Android, Apple's speech synthesis on iPhone). Neither sends any data.
- App updates: on Android, Vocamo asks the Google Play app on your phone whether a new version is available. Google Play handles the check and the update under its own terms; Vocamo sends none of your data. On iPhone the App Store handles updates and Vocamo does not check for them itself.
- Reminders are local notifications: they are scheduled on the phone and not sent from a server. On iPhone the system asks for permission to show notifications, and you can decline it or withdraw it in the system settings. To time and vary them, the phone stores when you practised and which reminders were shown. If you answer a word question in a notification, the answer updates your learning data on the phone just like practice.
- Home screen widget: if you add it, it shows your points, today's progress and one learned word. The data stays on the phone.
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, technical details (error, app and OS version, device model; no answers or language choices) are stored on the phone. Nothing is sent automatically: you can send the report yourself by email from settings.
- Sharing your result image: the image is created on the phone and goes only where you share it from the phone's share menu. On iPhone you can choose to save the image to Photos; Vocamo does not read your photos, and the image is saved only if you choose to save it.
- Review request: Vocamo may occasionally ask for a rating using the store's own review dialog (Google Play / App Store). The store handles it under its own terms; Vocamo does not learn whether you left a review.
- Mistake reports: you can report a content mistake (⚑). Reports are stored on your phone and you send them yourself by email from settings. A report contains the item's ID and text, your language choices, your answer, the reason you chose, your optional comment and the time. We use them only to fix content; your email and sender address are kept in our mailbox until the report has been handled.
- Exporting and importing learning data (changing phones): in settings you can save your learning data to a file and open it on another phone. The file contains progress in all languages, answer history, settings and unsent mistake reports. It is saved only where you choose; Vocamo does not send it to us or anywhere else. Importing replaces the learning data on the phone only after you confirm.
- Backup: Android may include app data in your device backup according to your Google account settings. On iPhone, likewise, an iCloud or computer backup according to your Apple account settings; Vocamo itself does not send the data anywhere.
- No tracking: Vocamo does not track you and uses no advertising identifiers, ads or third-party analytics. In the App Store privacy details (app privacy label) Vocamo is listed as "Data Not Collected".
Diagnostics (future, opt-in only)
If a future version asks for permission and you give it, Vocamo sends anonymous usage data to improve the app, such as the number and length of practice sessions, the share of correct answers and errors. The data is linked to a random installation ID – no name, email or device identifiers – and stored in the EU. You can withdraw consent in settings at any time. This policy will be updated before diagnostics are introduced.
Your rights
As the data is on your phone, you can delete it by uninstalling the app or clearing its data. Questions and requests: [email protected].
Children
Vocamo is not directed at children under 13.
